Microsoft 365 Migration in Prince George and BC
From Google Workspace, on-prem Exchange, GoDaddy, or another tenant. A Prince George based team migrates mail, calendar, contacts, files, and Teams with documented cutover windows, fallback plans, and a secure tenant baseline applied during the work. Local across BC, plus Canada-wide remote.
Moving to Microsoft 365 from Google Workspace, on-premises Exchange, a hosted mailbox provider, or another M365 tenant is a business-critical project. Done poorly, it means lost email, confused staff, broken calendar integrations, and a security posture that is worse after the migration than before.
North Star, based in Prince George, BC, approaches every M365 migration with a fixed scope, a documented cutover plan, and a security baseline applied during the migration, not proposed as a separate engagement afterward. We serve businesses across Prince George and Northern BC, the rest of British Columbia, and through secure remote delivery, Alberta, Yukon, and Canada-wide remote teams. This service sits inside our broader cloud and infrastructure practice, and most clients keep us on afterward for ongoing managed IT services.
What Is Included
We migrate mail, calendar, contacts, SharePoint, OneDrive, and Teams from wherever you are today to a properly configured Microsoft 365 tenant. Every migration includes a security baseline so you land in M365 in better shape than you started.
Source: Anywhere to M365
Google Workspace, Exchange on-premises, hosted Exchange, GoDaddy, IMAP, or tenant-to-tenant. We migrate mailboxes, calendars, contacts, files, OneDrive, and Teams data. No source is too messy.
Pre-Stage, Then Cut Over
We pre-stage data over a week or two of background syncing before the cutover window. This means the cutover itself is brief, your team is down for as little time as possible. Final cutover happens in a documented window with your sign-off.
Security Baseline Applied During Migration
MFA, Conditional Access, device management policies, and a Microsoft Secure Score baseline are configured during the migration. These are not optional extras, they are part of every M365 migration we do. You do not land in a new platform with the same security gaps. See our Microsoft 365 security baseline for what we apply.
Adoption
Users are productive on day one. We deliver a short, practical kickoff session, provide a written quick-start guide matched to your team's roles, and provide helpdesk priority for two weeks post-cutover. We do not drop the contract and disappear.
How It Works
Step 1, Discover
Audit your source environment. Document every mailbox, shared mailbox, distribution list, calendar resource, OneDrive, SharePoint site, and Teams team that needs to move. Document the policies each needs to land under.
Step 2, Plan
Migration design, cutover plan, fallback plan, and security baseline documented. Reviewed and approved by you before anything is touched.
Step 3, Migrate
Background sync over days or weeks. Data pre-staged. Final cutover in a scheduled, agreed window with North Star's team monitoring throughout.
Step 4, Stabilise
Two weeks of post-cutover priority support. Any issues triaged and resolved immediately. Transition to standard managed service or handoff with full documentation.
Who This Is For
- Prince George, Northern BC, BC, Alberta, or Yukon businesses migrating from Google Workspace, on-premises Exchange, or hosted email to Microsoft 365 for the first time
- Organisations already on M365 but with a misconfigured tenant, no MFA, no Conditional Access, missing security baselines, who need a remediation rather than a migration
- Businesses consolidating two M365 tenants following a merger or acquisition
- Teams that tried a DIY M365 migration and ended up with a messy tenant, duplicate accounts, or broken calendars
What buyers ask before they sign
How long does an M365 migration take?
Most migrations for businesses with 10 - 100 users complete in two to four weeks, including the pre-staging period. Large environments or those with complex SharePoint or Teams structures take longer. We provide a realistic timeline in the scoping document.
Will there be downtime?
Minimal. Background syncing happens over days or weeks before the cutover. The cutover window itself, where DNS is switched and users start using M365 as their primary platform, is typically scheduled outside business hours and takes a few hours. Staff notice the change on the Monday morning after cutover, not during the workday.
What licences do we need?
We assess your licence requirements during the discovery phase and recommend the appropriate Microsoft 365 plan for your business. Most SMBs start with Microsoft 365 Business Premium, which includes the security features (Defender, Intune, Entra ID P1) needed to properly harden the environment.
What if we are moving from Google Workspace?
This is one of our most common migration types. We handle the Gmail-to-Exchange mailbox migration, Google Drive to OneDrive/SharePoint file migration, and Google Calendar to Outlook calendar migration. Staff get a short training session on Outlook and Teams to reduce friction.
Do you apply MFA during the migration?
Yes, by default. MFA via Microsoft Authenticator and Conditional Access are configured and tested before the cutover window. We work with you on timing and communication to users so the rollout does not cause a help-desk flood.
What does it cost?
Fixed-fee based on user count, source platform, and scope complexity established during discovery. No billing surprises during the project.

Frequently asked questions
How long does a Microsoft 365 migration take?
Migrating to Microsoft 365 varies based on data volume and user count. Small migrations might take a few days, while larger enterprise projects across BC and Alberta can span several weeks. North Star performs an initial assessment to provide a precise timeline. We focus on a phased approach to ensure that high-priority data is available immediately, while archival data moves in the background to maintain business continuity throughout the process.
Will our email service be down during the migration?
We prioritise a low-downtime migration strategy. By synchronising data in the background and performing the final cutover during off-peak hours, your team in Prince George or anywhere across BC can keep working without interruption. We configure your DNS records and mail routing to ensure that no messages are lost. Our technicians monitor the transition in real time to resolve any synchronisation issues before they impact your daily business operations or client communication.
Can you migrate files from local servers and SharePoint?
Yes, we specialise in migrating both email and file structures. Whether your data is currently on a local file server, Google Workspace, or another cloud provider, we can move it to SharePoint Online or Microsoft Teams. This process includes mapping permissions and reorganising folder structures to better suit a cloud-native environment. We help businesses across Prince George and BC optimise their file storage for better collaboration and remote access security.
Do you offer training for employees after the move?
Absolutely. A migration is only successful if your staff knows how to use the new tools. We provide practical orientation sessions for teams in Prince George, across BC, and for Canada-wide remote staff to help them understand OneDrive, Teams, and SharePoint. Our helpdesk is also available to answer any questions after the cutover. We ensure that your employees feel confident navigating their new environment, which reduces the learning curve and prevents a drop in productivity following the transition.
